Thiruvananthapuram: Finally, after the wait of 10 long years, national award-winning director T Deepesh obtained permission from the High Court to release his movie Aquarium'.The release of the movie was restricted for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The high court has granted permission to release the movie via the OTT platform on April 9.
The censor board had banned the release of the movie in 2012. The Censor Board has repeatedly approached the Kerala unit and the Central unit seeking permission to screen the film but was denied permission. Eventually, the crew members approached the Censor Board Tribunal. The tribunal granted permission for the release after renaming the movie.
But when the film was about to head for theatrical release, two nuns approached the High Court alleging that their religious sentiments were hurt. The petition was dismissed on the ground that the High Court could not interfere in the screening of the film, which was sanctioned by the Censor Board. Movies released on the OTT platform do not currently require censor board approval.
