Chennai: The re-release of Vijay's blockbuster film 'Ghilli' has created a wave at the box office, as enthusiastic fans flock to cinemas to relive the magic on the big screen. On its first day back in theaters, the film raked in an impressive Rs 11 crore, showcasing the enduring popularity of the action-packed entertainer.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary since its release, 'Ghilli' has been re-released not only in Tamil Nadu but also in Kerala, UK, France, and Ireland, drawing audiences across various regions. The timing of the re-release couldn't have been better, as the absence of major releases due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections provided a clear runway for the film to shine once again.

Starring Vijay as the kabaddi star Velu and Trisha as the charming Dhanalakshmi, 'Ghilli' captivated audiences with its riveting storyline and stellar performances. Prakash Raj delivered a memorable portrayal as the antagonist Muthu Pandi, supported by Ashish Vidyarthi and Nagendra Prasad in pivotal roles.

Originally made in 2004 at a budget of Rs 8 crore, 'Ghilli' swiftly entered the coveted Rs 50 crore club, underscoring its massive commercial success. Vijay was paid Rs 4 crore for the film.
