The case stems from a complaint by a Delhi businessman alleging he was misled into investing based on forged documents and misrepresented rights

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to quash an FIR against Kumar Mangat Pathak, the producer of the Bollywood movie "Drishyam 2," in an alleged fraud case related to the movie’s rights. Justice Neena Krishna Bansal declined to grant relief, observing that the investigation was still at a preliminary stage and noting that the petitioner was cooperating with the authorities. The judge said, "There is no need to intervene at this point."
Pathak, a director of Panorama Studios International Ltd, had sought to quash the FIR lodged by the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police for alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy. The FIR, filed in June 2025, accuses Pathak and others of being involved in a conspiracy with forged documents and misrepresentation of rights.
The complaint was filed by a Delhi-based businessman who claims to have been misled into investing Rs 4.3 crore in a deal that promised exclusive Chinese language release rights for the movie across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Pathak’s petition argued that his "reputation would be irreparably damaged if he is subjected to custodial interrogation and other coercive measures." However, the court refused to quash the FIR at this stage.
