Pranav Mohanlal’s upcoming psychological horror film Dies Irae, directed by Bramayugam filmmaker Rahul Sadasivan, has dropped its chilling release trailer

The long-awaited trailer of Dies Irae, starring Pranav Mohanlal and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, has finally been unveiled. The film, described as a psychological horror inspired by true events, will hit theatres worldwide on October 31, 2025, aligning perfectly with Halloween night.
Following the trailer launch, the entire cast and crew — including Pranav Mohanlal and filmmaker Rahul Sadasivan — updated their profile pictures on social media, sending fans into a frenzy. Premier shows are set to begin on 30 October at 9 pm.
The trailer opens with a striking J-cut sequence that has already caught the attention of film enthusiasts. The scene begins in an empty, dimly lit room before transitioning into a match cut that introduces Pranav’s haunting character. The sound design, crafted with precision, seamlessly merges flickering lights, ticking clocks, and a cracking sound — revealed to be Pranav breaking an object with his hands.
As the screen fades to black, a chilling caption appears: “Based on true events.” Viewers are then drawn into eerie visuals of shadowy corridors and distorted reflections, accompanied by a voice reciting verses from the Book of Revelation: “The trumpets will sound, and the earth and sky shall be destroyed.”
What ‘Dies Irae’ means
The title Dies Irae translates from Latin as “Day of Wrath.” It originates from a medieval hymn describing the Day of Judgment, when the world faces divine reckoning. In literature, art, and cinema, Dies Irae symbolises the end of innocence, divine punishment, and the confrontation with one’s inner fears — themes that resonate strongly with the film’s tone.
Rahul Sadasivan, known for his acclaimed 2024 film Bramayugam, reunites with several key collaborators for Dies Irae. The film stars Jibin Gopinath and Manohari Joy in pivotal roles, with cinematography by Shehnad Jalal, music by Christo Xavier, production design by Jothish Shankar, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali.
With its atmospheric visuals, innovative sound design, and creative editing, Dies Irae promises a deeply unsettling cinematic experience that blends psychological tension with supernatural terror. Fans of Malayalam horror are already hailing the trailer as one of the most technically refined in recent years.
Dies Irae marks another ambitious venture by director Rahul Sadasivan, who wrote and directed the project following the success of Bramayugam. The title, Latin for “Day of Wrath”, draws inspiration from apocalyptic biblical themes and hints at the film’s psychological depth.
The trailer, which dropped on Saturday, immediately trended across social media platforms. Audiences praised its inventive sound editing and atmospheric tension, particularly the J-cut technique used to blend sound before the visual transition — a choice rarely seen in regional cinema.
Shot across haunting interiors and moody landscapes, Dies Irae uses minimal dialogue and expressive lighting to convey dread. Pranav Mohanlal’s portrayal suggests an internal conflict rooted in guilt, fear, and the unknown — a continuation of his evolving craft as an actor in intense, experimental roles.
As anticipation builds toward its Halloween release, Dies Irae stands poised to cement Rahul Sadasivan’s reputation as one of Malayalam cinema’s leading horror stylists, while offering audiences a chilling journey into the human psyche and the shadows that lie beyond.
