Ranveer Singh's blockbuster spy thriller Dhurandhar began screening in a revised version across Indian theatres on January 1, following directives from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that required the filmmakers to mute specific words and alter dialogue in the nearly month-old film.

Theatre owners nationwide received emails from distributors on December 31 instructing them to replace the film's Digital Cinema Package with updated content, according to Bollywood Hungama. The changes include muting two words and modifying one dialogue, with industry insiders confirming that "Baloch" is among the removed terms.

The modifications come amid legal challenges and public controversy over a dialogue delivered by actor Sanjay Dutt's character, a Pakistani police officer, who states: "You can trust a crocodile, but not a Baloch". Members of the Baloch community filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court in late December, arguing the line amounts to hate speech that vilifies their community. The court declined to grant immediate relief on December 24 but scheduled the next hearing for January 9.
