Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is reportedly skipping advance influencer screenings ahead of its July 17 theatrical release

Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic ‘The Odyssey’ is reportedly taking an unconventional path to its theatrical release, choosing mystery over early social media buzz.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures is not expected to hold advance influencer screenings for the film before critics and entertainment journalists get to watch it. The move marks a departure from a marketing strategy that has become increasingly common across Hollywood.

In recent years, studios have regularly invited digital creators and social media personalities to early screenings in the hope of generating excitement online before official reviews are published. These first reactions often shape conversations around a film days before its release.
‘The Odyssey’, however, appears set to avoid that playbook.
While Universal has not publicly explained the reported decision, it aligns with Christopher Nolan's long-standing approach to promoting his films.
The filmmaker has built a reputation for revealing very little before release, often steering clear of film festivals and limiting promotional material to preserve the audience's viewing experience.
Keeping influencer screenings off the calendar could also minimise the chances of story details making their way online ahead of the film's worldwide release.
The report also points to a changing perception of influencer reactions within the industry. Some moviegoers have become increasingly sceptical of early social media praise, viewing it as part of promotional campaigns rather than an objective response to a film.
Even without advance influencer buzz, anticipation for ‘The Odyssey’ remains high. Demand for premium-format tickets is reportedly strong, reflecting the excitement surrounding Nolan's latest big-screen spectacle.
The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jovan Adepo, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Travis Scott and Elliot Page.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the film reunites the filmmaker with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema and Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson.
‘The Odyssey’ is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 17.
