Nolan will attend the event in July along with producer Emma Thomas and cast members Matt Damon and Tom Holland. The premiere will be held at PVR Icon IMAX at Phoenix Palladium Mall in Mumbai, although the exact date has yet to be announced.
The visit is being described as a landmark moment for the Indian entertainment industry, given Nolan's immense popularity among Indian audiences and the fact that none of his previous films have had an official premiere in the country.
‘The Odyssey’ is an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic and stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, who embarks on a perilous journey home following the Trojan War. The film also features Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus, alongside Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Samantha Morton and Charlize Theron.
Written and directed by Nolan, the film has been produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan under their production banner, Syncopy.
Speaking earlier this month, Damon described the project as the most challenging film of his career, noting Nolan's preference for practical filmmaking over green-screen technology. The director is known for using real locations and practical effects, and ‘The Odyssey’ continues that approach.
The film is also being billed as the first feature to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.
‘The Odyssey’ is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 17 July.
