After months of anticipation, Christopher Nolan's 2014 sci-fi masterpiece Interstellar will finally make its re-entry into Indian cinemas, including an IMAX format, on February 7, 2025. The much-awaited re-release comes after a delay caused by the overwhelming success of Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which dominated box office screens and delayed Interstellar's return to Indian theaters.

The film, which was re-released in the US last December to mark its 10th anniversary, did not get a significant number of IMAX screens, largely due to the clout of Pushpa 2. However, in the US, Interstellar’s return was a resounding success. It grossed $4.5 million across 166 screens and became the ninth highest-grossing IMAX release of all time, following Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film earned an impressive $70,000 per theater on some screens.

Warner Bros. India took to social media to announce the re-release, with a post stating, “The stars are aligning again! Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar returns to cinemas in India and also in IMAX on February 7. Relive the journey beyond time and space!” 

The re-release also marks the film's continued cultural impact, with Nolan expressing his gratitude for its enduring popularity. He told the Associated Press, “I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens… it’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”

Set in a dystopian future ravaged by famine, Interstellar follows a group of astronauts who journey through a wormhole near Saturn to find a new habitable planet for humanity. The film features an ensemble cast including Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, and Timothée Chalamet. It also won five Academy Awards in technical categories.

With the IMAX re-release now confirmed, Indian audiences can once again immerse themselves in Interstellar's breathtaking visuals and its emotional depth on the big screen.
