This week at the box office has been marked by the highly anticipated releases of four new films: "It Ends With Us," "Checkmate," "Andhagan," and "Borderlands." With a diverse range of genres on offer, these films have drawn audiences to theaters. According to Sacnilk, "Checkmate", released on August 9, directed by Ratish Sekhar, generated mixed reviews among moviegoers yet maintained a box office traction. It collected Rs 6 lakh on the first day. Over the weekend, the India net collection stood at Rs 21 lakh, while the worldwide total was Rs 22 lakh. The movie collected Rs 9 lakh on the second day, and Rs 6 lakh on the third day in India.

The story revolves around the lives of a pharmaceutical business CEO, a failing Don, a bereaved widower, and a cunning lawyer who cross paths with the kidnapping of an enigmatic woman. This incident sets off a series of events in the underbelly of New York City that take an unforeseen turn. Checkmate features Anoop Menon in the lead role, supported by performances from Lal, Rekha Harindran, and Swapneel Batra. 

Directed by Thiagarajan, "Andhagan", released on August 9, garnered Rs 65 lakh on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 3 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 1.15 crore on the second day, and Rs 1.25 crore on the third day in India.

The story revolves around a blind pianist who inadvertently gets involved in a murder in this remake of the 2018 Hindi film Andhadhun. Prashanth plays the lead character in the movie, and other cast members include Simran, Priya Anand, Karthik, Urvashi, Yogi Babu, K. S. Ravikumar, Vanitha Vijayakumar, and Manobala.

With Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brandon Sklenar in the lead roles, "It ends with us", released on August 9, has captured the attention of Indian viewers and is having the biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood romance movie. It garnered Rs 670 crore worldwide. The net collection in India adds up to Rs 4.1 crore. The day one and day two collections were Rs 85 lakh and Rs 1.5 crore, respectively, while day three brought in Rs 1.75 crore.

Blake Lively plays Lily Bloom in "It Ends With Us," a character who overcomes a difficult upbringing to start over in Boston and realize her long-held goal of starting her own company. Lily and the handsome neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) have a fortuitous encounter that leads to a profound romantic connection. However, as the two become closer, Lily starts to notice aspects of Ryle that remind her of her parents' relationship. 

Meanwhile, "Deadpool and Wolverine," the newest blockbuster from Marvel Studios, has achieved a noteworthy milestone by being the second movie of 2024 to break the Rs 1000 crore barrier at the worldwide box office. The superhero movie, which stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in the key roles, reportedly reached the landmark during its third weekend at the box office. This marks the first comic book film to reach this milestone since "Spider-Man: No Way Home," starring Tom Holland, in 2021.
