Ponnani: G. Aravindan, a distinguished director in the Malayalam film industry renowned for his award-winning movies, not only possessed an acute eye for detail but also a generous heart towards his companions.

Aravindan's directorial masterpiece 'Chidambaram' clinched the esteemed National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 1986. The plaque he received for it now graces the abode of his close confidant, Bava Sainudheen, in Ponnani.

The bond between Aravindan and Bava burgeoned in the 1980s, blossoming from a chance encounter amidst the bustling streets of Mumbai during the filming of 'Oridathu'. While Aravindan, known for his reserved and contemplative demeanor, kept a small circle of acquaintances, Bava swiftly emerged as one of his cherished companions.

Throughout his sojourns in Mumbai, Aravindan relied on Bava for various necessities, transforming their acquaintance into a steadfast alliance. Bava assumed the role of both mentor and friend, guiding Aravindan through the labyrinthine streets of the city and assisting him in procuring pens and cotton clothes. Similarly, whenever Bava journeyed to Kerala, paying a visit to Aravindan remained an indispensable part of his itinerary.

On March 10, 1991, Bava extended an invitation to Aravindan for the housewarming ceremony at his Mumbai residence. Regrettably, Aravindan, despite his intention to attend, was unable to grace the occasion. Tragically, just five days later, on March 15, Aravindan bid his final farewell to the mortal realm.

In his twilight days, Aravindan entrusted his wife, Kaumudi, with the task of bestowing the 'Chidambaram' plaque upon Bava as a testament to their enduring friendship.

Twenty years hence, in 2011, Kaumudi, fulfilling her late husband's wish, presented the cherished memento to Bava during the inauguration of his new residence in Ponnani.
