Kochi: Actor Tini Tom expressed his delight at being elected to the executive committee of the star body Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, he said it was everyone’s long-cherished wish to see women leading the association, and now it has become a reality.

“Now we are nine men and eight women, and we are very happy. AMMA has become a reality. It was everyone’s wish that women should come to the helm. It happened. They have been given a term. They have three years. Let them prove it. We will be with them,” Tini Tom said.

He noted that this marks his fourth term on the committee. “I am coming to the fourth term after sitting in three terms. I was in three committees with Lalettan. If there are any shortcomings there, I can help them with information,” he added.

Tini Tom also spoke about supporting actress Shwetha Menon, who was elected as the first-ever female president of the association on Friday.

“I supported Shwetha through my social media. It was a false allegation. I don’t know the details of the memory card issue. I am not connected to it at all. If it has to go legally, let it go ahead,” he said.

For the first time in its 31-year history, women have assumed leadership in AMMA. Shwetha Menon has been elected president, with Lakshmi Priya and Jayan Cherthala chosen as Vice Presidents. Kukku Parameswaran has been elected as the general secretary. Unni Sivpal was elected as Treasurer after a closely contested fight. Actress Ansiba Hasan had earlier been elected unopposed as Joint Secretary.
