On India’s Independence Day, a day celebrating freedom, Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) too celebrates a new kind of liberty—women stepping into leadership. Actress Shwetha Menon has been elected President, becoming the first woman to hold the top post in AMMA. With eight women and nine men in the 17-member 2025–28 executive committee, the women-to-men ratio reflects a notable stride in gender representation.

The organisation’s first woman General Secretary, Kukku Parameswaran, joins Shwetha in making history. In total, four key positions in the executive committee are now held by women, signalling a significant shift towards inclusivity and gender balance.
