Kochi: A video recording of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) general body meeting was aired on the YouTube channel, creating controversy within the organisation.
Meanwhile, the media has expressed their protest over the expulsion of media personnel from the meeting.
The video revealed confidential deliberations and electoral processes to the public, sparking widespread attention and debate. The new leadership committee assessed that the audience witnessed the uproar and protest over the selection of the executive committee members in real-time, which caused embarrassment to the organisation.
Press photographers and visual media attending the Sunday general body meeting were not allowed inside. At the beginning of the meeting, it was said that 10 minutes of footage would be allowed, but it was in vain. Finally, permission was granted to record only the ceremony honouring the award winners. The media was also not allowed to attend the reception given to Union Minister Suresh Gopi.
Since last year, the right to record the AMMA general body meeting has been given to a YouTube channel. This time, they also have broadcasting rights for the coverage after a payment of Rs 20 lakh.
Information about the registration of a charitable trust organisation to avoid income tax loopholes, disputes over the purchase of land, and other discussions were broadcast live on the channel. The comments box of the channel was filled with sarcasm and abuse against the stars after the altercation and protest during the announcement of the election results in the evening.
The office bearers learned about the livestream after people from the film industry called them after watching the meeting live. After the Journalists Union wrote a letter to the Ernakulam District Committee, protesting the ordeals faced by journalists, the AMMA leadership has taken the issue seriously. General Secretary Siddique informed the members that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident. He also expressed his regret for the difficulties faced by journalists.
