Kochi: The returning officers overseeing the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) elections have reportedly barred members from making public statements regarding internal matters of the organisation. This decision comes amidst growing tensions over the ongoing memory card controversy linked to sensitive disclosures made by women members in 2018.

In a new directive issued by the AMMA election authorities, all members – including those contesting organisational posts – have been strictly instructed not to engage with the media on internal issues. The body has warned that serious action will be taken against anyone violating the order.

Controversy over missing memory card

The recent move is widely seen as a response to the revived controversy surrounding a memory card containing video footage from the 2018 MeToo-related discussions held within AMMA.

Actress Usha Hasina has alleged that the memory card – which contains claims from women members – was taken by fellow member Kuku Parameswaran. Usha has demanded the return of the footage and has submitted complaints to AMMA, the Kerala Chief Minister, the State Women’s Commission, the Human Rights Commission, and the Director General of Police (DGP).

Kuku Parameswaran has also filed a counter-complaint with the DGP. Her complaint names actresses Ponnamma Babu, Usha Hasina, Priyanka, and others, alleging that she has been subjected to verbal abuse through media channels.
