Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s 83rd birthday was celebrated in grand style on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17. The highlight of the day was a heartfelt virtual message from Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, which left the veteran actor visibly moved and emotional.

The special birthday episode featured writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar and his son, actor-director Farhan Akhtar, as celebrity guests. Together, the trio reminisced about Bachchan’s iconic journey, especially his breakthrough film Zanjeer, which cemented his image as Bollywood’s legendary “Angry Young Man.” Javed Akhtar, who has penned many of Big B’s milestone films, called him “a once-in-a-generation performer,” celebrating their long creative partnership.

But it was Mohanlal’s tribute that became the emotional highlight of the evening. Appearing virtually, the Malayalam legend’s words carried warmth and reverence:

“Dear Amit Ji, wishing you a very happy birthday. You are an endless source of inspiration. Your discipline, humility, and strength are qualities the world continues to learn from. Every interaction with you reminds me how much there is to absorb from your journey. May you always be blessed with good health and happiness.”

A visibly moved Amitabh folded his hands and responded, “Thank you so much, Mohanlal ji.” Turning to Javed Akhtar, he added with admiration,

“He recently received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He is such a brilliant actor — whatever role you give him, he transforms completely. His face is God-gifted; every emotion flows naturally through his expressions.”

Mohanlal, who was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award earlier this year, has long admired Amitabh Bachchan. In a past interview, he had called Big B his favourite actor in Hindi cinema.
