Paramjit Singh Sarna, President of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), has sharply criticised actress Kangana Ranaut, calling her the "most uneducated girl" over her film Emergency, which he claims unfairly targets the Akali Dal.

Sarna's remarks underscore his disapproval of the film’s portrayal of the party’s role during the Emergency period.

Akali Dal issues legal notice to Censor Board 

Sarna’s criticism forms part of a broader dispute concerning the film’s depiction of historical events and figures. The Akali Dal has issued a legal notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), seeking to block the film’s release. The party argues that the trailer for Emergency inaccurately represents historical facts and misrepresents the Sikh community, potentially inciting social discord.

The notice, sent by Sarna and supported by advocates Manmohan Singh Narula and Manjeet Singh Chugh, demands that the release of the film be prevented.

The Akali Dal accuses Ranaut of using the film not to critique the Congress party but to target and malign the Sikh community. The notice asserts that the film neglects the significant role of the Akali Dal and the Sikh community in opposing the Emergency measures imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, highlighting the party’s struggle and sacrifices for democratic restoration.

The legal team has urged the CBFC to address the issue within seven days, warning that failure to act will lead to further legal action.
