While AAP maintains these claims are part of a broader political agenda against them, the potential loss of further parliamentary members could significantly impact the party's national influence and Punjab’s political landscape.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia intensified the political pressure on the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday, alleging that two Lok Sabha members are poised to resign amid an escalating internal crisis.
Majithia’s claims, shared via his social media accounts, arrive shortly after a historic fracture within the party’s parliamentary wing. The allegations suggest that the instability, which recently decimated the party’s representation in the upper house, has now permeated its lower house delegation.
Predictions of Further Defections
In a post composed in both English and Punjabi, Majithia utilised aviation metaphors to describe what he characterised as an impending exodus. He suggested that the list of leaders abandoning the party continues to expand, mocking the current state of the organisation's leadership.
"Another day, another departure loading... Sources indicate 2 Lok Sabha MPs may soon be flying out of Aam Aadmi Party. The 'frequent flier' list just keeps growing," Majithia wrote.
The SAD leader indicated that the friction within the party, specifically under the direction of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, has reached a critical threshold.
Context of the Crisis
The claims follow a major political shift on April 24, 2024, when seven Rajya Sabha members, including high-profile figures Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak, defected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. That move resulted in the loss of two-thirds of the party's strength in the Rajya Sabha.
While the Aam Aadmi Party has initiated legal proceedings to disqualify the defectors under anti-defection statutes, Majithia’s newest assertions suggest the rebellion is widening. If these resignations materialise, the party’s influence within the national parliament would be further eroded, significantly altering the political framework in Punjab.
Political Reactions
Aam Aadmi Party officials have not provided a specific rebuttal to the allegations regarding the Lok Sabha members. However, senior leader Sanjay Singh has previously categorised such narratives as components of "Operation Lotus," a term the party uses to describe alleged efforts by the BJP to undermine the Punjab government.
In contrast, political opponents argue the departures are a clear indication of "disillusionment" with the party's trajectory. Following Majithia’s prediction, public and political scrutiny has shifted to the remaining Lok Sabha members as observers wait to see if a second wave of resignations will occur.
