Actress Aishwarya Rajesh has expressed her support for the establishment of a committee in Tamil cinema, similar to the Hema Committee in Malayalam, to address the challenges faced by women in the industry. Speaking to Hindustan Times, she highlighted that women often struggle to meet basic needs during outdoor shoots and stressed the importance of resolving these issues.

The initiative follows the response to the Hema Committee report, which shed light on the difficulties faced by female actors in the Malayalam film industry. The Tamil Nadu actors’ organisation, Nadigar Sangam, has appointed actress Rohini to lead a panel investigating these matters.

Aishwarya noted, “As an actress, the first issue that needs addressing is providing facilities for women to meet their basic needs during outdoor shoots. While I have access to a vanity van, what about other women in character roles? They often face significant hardships.”

She also emphasised the necessity for support for women reporting grievances, stating, “If women seeking help receive nothing, then forming a committee is meaningless. It is crucial to ensure that complaints do not lead to loss of employment for women; they must be protected.”

Aishwarya recently starred in "ARM," featuring Tovino Thomas, and has upcoming web series "Valaiyam" and "Suzhal Season 2."
