Veteran film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan has voiced his disappointment over the exclusion of the Christo Tomy-directed film 'Ullozhukku' from prominent film festivals, including the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
In a letter to the Honourable Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs, Saji Cheriyan, Adoor expressed his discontent with the film's rejection from these prestigious events. He remarked that, given the recent selection trends at IFFI, it was unsurprising that 'Ullozhukku' was not chosen. However, he firmly believed that the film should have been featured in Kerala's own international film festival, IFFK. Adoor further revealed that he learned about the film's omission when he contacted director Christo Tomy to congratulate him on creating such a remarkable piece of cinema.
'Ullozhukku', though not screened at IFFI and IFFK, was shown at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) last month, where it was well received. The film is also having a fabulous run at the domestic and international box office alike.
'Ullozhukku' is the debut feature film of the director Christo Tomy, best known for his internationally acclaimed Netflix documentary 'Curry & Cyanide.' The film also features actors such as Alancier, Arjun Radhakrishnan, Prasanth Murali, Jaya Kurup, and Veenah Nair among others. Acclaimed composer Sushin Shyam has composed the score for the film.
