Actress Urfi Javed has recently opened up about the harassment she had faced in her life. In a candid interview with Brut India, Javed described a disturbing incident with a group of teenagers who asked, “What is your body count?”(body count kitna he?).
Javed recounted her reaction, saying, “I swear to God I would have killed him then and there, and just the cameras were there so I controlled myself. I felt where are we heading? He looked like a good guy from a good college or a good school. I just got mad, you know, again and again because I feel in that moment I should have done something.”
“This is what happens with all the girls actually. We’re not able to do or say stuff when something happens in that moment because you’re just so shocked,” she explained.
Javed reflected on the mindset behind such behavior, when she was asked about where the “false sense of confidence” that emboldens these young men comes from. “Because they know nothing will happen. They think that I will say and go, nothing will happen here.”
She emphasized that harassment and assault are about power, not lust. “When a guy harasses a woman, when a guy rapes a woman, it is not about lust. It is a power thing. It is that a man will do it because he knows he can and there will be no consequences.”
Javed also directed her message to parents, urging them to address inappropriate behavior directly. “My advice for those parents with boys is to slap your boy or tell your sons that they’re wrong. Let's stop giving advice to women,” she asserted.
