Actress Rajisha Vijayan has revealed the intense physical journey behind her film Masthishka Maranam (2026). “My life was around the gym, and I reduced nearly 15 kgs in just six months,” said Rajisha Vijayan, reflecting on the preparation. The role required immense strength to cope with physically challenging scenes, pushing her into a rigorous fitness routine. “I was happy to lose weight, as my character urged me to do it,” she added. With a visibly fitter physique the actress had a plenty of experiences gained from the project to speak of.

Rajisha Vijayan completes a decade in cinema, beginning with her debut in Anuraga Karikkin Vellam (2016), which won her the Kerala State Film Award for best actress in 2017.

Masthishka Maranam: Beyond Compare

Actor Vijayan calls Masthishka Maranam one of the most thrilling experiences of her career. The film is set in the year 2046. Directed by Krishand R. K., known for Aavasavyuham, the film blends sci-fi and cyber comedy. Vijayan plays the lead role as Frida Soman, a filmmaker. An era of heightened AI usage is discussed in the film. “It’s been a long time since I’ve come across an idea this surprising,” she said, reflecting on the depth of her character and the dystopian storyline.

The Physique Pursuit

Rajisha Vijayan’s took the role of Frida Simon by losing 15kgs of weight at the gym in 6 months. “I am more than happy in losing my weight for the cinema”, she said. “All looks of mine are completely different in Masthishka Maranam. “I have done variety looks for the photoshoot, unlike the other appearances done for rest of the films”. The actress revealed her looks in the film are unlike any of her previous roles, crafted to meet the director’s vision. Calling the character rare in real life, Vijayan did her role as Frida Soman very enthusiastically.

Contend with Cinema Life

From her debut film, Anuraga Karikkin Vellam to until now, Vijayan feels happy for the roles gifted to her, in films. “I have happily embraced “Eli” (Elisabeth) in Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, “June Sara” in June, and “Alice Varghese” in Final”. Vijayan revealed that she is extremely happy and that she believes certain roles “come in search of an individual”. For her, Frida Soman in Masthishka Maranam arrived rightfully in her 10th year in cinema.

No Boundaries; Only Stories

Rajisha Vijayan is open to working in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films. “Whether good films reach us is the significant matter”, she said. She believes that, “boundaries in languages are unnecessary…I am ready as long as the cinema offers a good film and a suitable character”.

Rajisha Vijayan says “Malayalam cinema’s story lines continue to move forward with power”, while “other languages in Indian cinema have also begun to offer strong storylines and characters”. She also adds that she has set no boundaries for acting in foreign language films.

Rajisha Vijayan Finds Inspiration in Travel

Travelling is another option after cinema for Rajisha Vijayan. “Recently, I have visited many European countries and places, and each travel brings a novelty within me. Each country teaches one new moral and new errors, and one of the different experiences a journey offers is such an understanding”. Vijayan says she tries to travel four or five times in a year, inside and outside India. “Acting is something I wish to carry with me until my last breath. And journeys too—how wonderful it would be if I could keep traveling until the very end of life” she said.
