Los Angeles: HBO Max dominated the 2026 Primetime Emmy nominations on Wednesday, with medical drama "The Pitt" leading all contenders with 25 nominations, while "Hacks" made Emmy history by earning a record-breaking 24 nominations for its fifth and final season, the highest ever for a comedy series.

The nominations, announced across 118 Primetime Emmy categories, also saw HBO Max finish as the most-nominated platform overall with 122 nominations, cementing its dominance in both drama and comedy.

'The Pitt' continues its winning run

Following its breakout first season, "The Pitt" once again emerged as the biggest Emmy contender. The acclaimed emergency-room drama secured nominations for Best Drama Series, while star Noah Wyle earned another Best Actor nomination alongside recognition for directing and producing.

The show's cast also dominated the supporting acting categories. Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, and Sepideh Moafi received supporting actress nominations, while several of the show's male cast members also landed supporting actor nods.

'Hacks' makes Emmy history

Comedy series "Hacks" celebrated its farewell season with a record 24 nominations, surpassing the previous comedy record jointly held by "The Studio" and "The Bear."

Series star Jean Smart, already a four-time Emmy winner for the role, is once again nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, while Hannah Einbinder earned another supporting actress nomination.

Co-creator Paul W. Downs picked up three nominations for acting, writing and producing.

Apple TV makes strong debut

Apple TV scored major success with two new original series.

Sci-fi drama "Pluribus," created by Vince Gilligan, received 18 nominations, including Best Actress in a Drama Series for Rhea Seehorn.

Meanwhile, horror-comedy "Widow's Bay" earned 19 nominations, with Matthew Rhys recognised for both acting and producing.

Apple also secured comedy series nominations for "Shrinking" and "Margo's Got Money Troubles." Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford earned a supporting actor nomination for "Shrinking," while co-star Jason Segel was nominated for Best Actor.

Star-studded nominees

Several Hollywood and music stars also featured prominently among this year's nominees.

Taylor Swift received five nominations as a producer for "The Eras Tour – The Final Show" concert special, while Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show earned nine nominations.

Veteran filmmaker Rob Reiner was posthumously nominated for Guest Actor in "The Bear," while Michael J. Fox received a Guest Actor nomination for his appearance in "Shrinking."

Actor Jason Bateman earned four nominations across "Black Rabbit" and "DTF St. Louis," while Martin Short picked up three nominations, including Best Actor in a Comedy Series for "Only Murders in the Building."

Other big contenders

Netflix's anthology "Beef" led the Limited or Anthology Series category with 16 nominations, while "Euphoria" returned to the Emmys after a lengthy gap with seven nominations, including another Best Actress nod for Zendaya.

On the broadcast television front, "Abbott Elementary" remained one of the strongest performers, earning seven nominations, with creator and star Quinta Brunson receiving three individual nominations.

Emmy awards date

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 14 and will air on NBC. Mariska Hargitay is set to host the ceremony after also receiving nominations for directing and producing the documentary "My Mom Jayne."
