Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt recently set social media on fire after boldly declaring he was “angry” at Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj for giving him a small role in the 2023 blockbuster Leo, despite loving his time working with Thalapathy Vijay.

Speaking at the teaser launch of his upcoming film KD – The Devil, Dutt’s comment — “He wasted me” — quickly turned viral, sparking debate among fans.

Now, Kanagaraj has finally addressed the controversy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The director revealed that Sanjay Dutt personally called him after the event. “He said, ‘I made a very funny comment, but it got awkward after people cut it and put it on social media.’ I just said, ‘No problem, sir,’” Kanagaraj explained.

Insisting that he never intentionally sidelines characters, Kanagaraj added humbly, “I’m not a genius or a great filmmaker. I have made so many mistakes in my films, and I’m still learning.” But here’s the twist fans were hoping for: the director teased a possible big reunion. “Probably, I would do another film with Sanjay Dutt, sir, and make it up to him,” he hinted.

Meanwhile, Kanagaraj is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated next venture, Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth. Slated to hit screens on August 14, 2025, the action entertainer boasts a stellar cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Shoubin, Satyaraj, and even a cameo by Aamir Khan. The recently dropped second single ‘Monica’, featuring Pooja Hegde, is already making waves, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
