The issues related to Soothravakyam have been resolved

The film Soothravakyam, starring Shine Tom Chacko and Vincy Aloshious in the lead roles, has finally been released. Directed by Eugene Jose Chiramel, the film is produced by the well-known Telugu production company Cinema Bandi. In this interview, Vinci Aloysius talks about the film and the controversies that arose during its shoot.
It took a while for Soothravakyam to be released. What are your expectations for the movie ahead?
I have a supporting role in the film. The character I play is Nimisha, a Maths teacher. The film is a thriller set against the backdrop of a school and a police station. I hope the audience will accept it.
There were some issues during the shoot, particularly involving actor Shine Tom Chacko. Have all those problems been resolved?
There were some problems. I believe all of them have been resolved now. Both Shine and I apologized to each other wholeheartedly. Shine has changed a lot. He understood the concerns I raised and even acknowledged them openly. After all, a film is the hard work of many people. It’s not right for its release to be delayed because of controversies.
Did you ever feel that the controversies had gone out of hand?
There were indeed some issues during the shoot. I could have stayed away thinking it was only my problem. But I thought if my actions could bring about some positive change, then why not. It happened unexpectedly. It even badly affected Shine’s family. They faced a lot of abuse on social media. I never thought it would go that far.

Isn’t it fair to demand a safe film set?
Of course, it is absolutely fair. The issues related to Soothravakyam have been resolved. But that doesn’t mean the concerns I raised about drug use on set have just disappeared. Everyone has the right to do what they want in their personal life. But a safe working atmosphere on set is necessary. All actors and everyone involved in a film are responsible for that.
Who do you feel the greatest sense of gratitude towards in your career?
I always remember director Lal Jose sir. He was the first person I performed in front of. I didn’t have any special talents back then. Even so, he invited me to the show Nayika Nayakan. That was the beginning.
What do you focus on when choosing a film?
The story is the most important thing. If I feel okay with it, I’ll discuss it with the director. The one-line summary they give is very crucial. If that sounds good, I go ahead. If not, I have to say no. I have said no before too. I also look at the technical side of a film. Cinematography, editing, music, everything needs to come together. That’s what makes a good film.
How does Vinci overcome difficult times?
Life has taught me never to run away from challenges. Even if you have no one by your side, you must face them. There will always be plenty of people to criticize. Take it in the right spirit. If you’re wrong, correct yourself. Move forward. That’s my policy.
