Kochi: Actor Shine Tom Chacko faces a second round of misconduct allegations, with actress Aparna Johnson now coming forward to accuse him of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of the film Sootravaakyam. Her claims follow similar allegations made earlier by actress Vincy Aloshious.

In a detailed statement, Aparna — who made her debut with Sootravaakyam — alleged that Shine repeatedly made sexually suggestive comments during shooting schedules. “His conversations were filled with strong sexual connotations, whether we were rehearsing, waiting for scenes, or simply taking a break. It was extremely unsettling. Performing scenes with him after that became mentally exhausting. These were not isolated incidents, it kept happening,” she said.

Aparna, who has been residing in Australia, said she was unaware of internal mechanisms such as an Internal Committee (IC) that could address such issues on film sets. She confided in a fellow female artist on set, who then helped resolve the situation discreetly by modifying her schedule and completing her scenes quickly, allowing her to leave the project environment comfortably.

“This being my first film, I didn’t know whom to approach officially. But thanks to one person I trusted, Advocate Sauchanya Varma, I was kept safe. I didn’t feel the need to file a formal complaint because the issue was handled by her. My schedule for the next few days was changed, my scenes were finished quickly, making me safe, comfortable, and happy before I left,” she added.

Describing Shine’s conduct, she stated: “His behaviour and speech were abnormal- completely lacking in basic common sense. I can’t say whether it was due to drug use or a medical issue, but something was clearly wrong. I too witnessed him spitting a white powder, just as Vincy had described. However, I cannot confirm what it was.”

Aparna emphasised that she refrained from confronting Shine directly due to concern over his unpredictable behaviour and the potential impact on the film and its crew. “I didn’t stay silent. I took action through someone else. This film represents the dreams and hard work of many people, and I didn’t want to jeopardise that,” she said.

The production team of Sootravaakyam has yet to respond publicly to the latest allegations.
