Thiruvananthapuram : New age Film makers Vidhu Vincent, Madhu C Narayanan and Mathukkutty Xavier discussed on the topic, ‘changes in the new cinema’ at MBIFL. Writer Dr T K Santhosh Kumar was the moderator of the session.
New Cinemas are more real and are connected to the World. The medium of expression is neither language nor sound. Super stars are no more the victory formula for cinema. A well narrated story, when pictured in its natural setting is accepted by the audience.
Cinema is undergoing the transition stage from being reelistic to realistic. Subtle expressions of characters could also narrate the story. The efforts behind making the movies Helen, Kumbalangi Nights and Stand - up were shared by the directors.
Manu C Narayanan felt that a well written script can create a good cinema. It took more than 5 years for him to complete the script of Kumbalangi Nights. Vidhu Vincent hoped for more changing perceptions of Cinema and its acceptance. She opined that Cinema needn’t be cinematic . Mathukkutty Xavier accepted the fact that experimental movies which were box office failures have been his text book for creating his movie.
The session concluded on the note that Cinema is transcending in its changing ways.
