Satchidanandan is an eminent poet, translator and orator. He was born at Kodungallur in Thrissur district in 1946. Satchidanandan has written around 50 books including translations. He worked as a Professor of English at Irinjalakkuda Christ College till 1995. Satchidanandan has worked as the secretary of Kendra Sahitya Akademi from 1996 to 2006.
He has bagged Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for prose in 1984, for poetry in 1989, for drama in 1999, for travelogue in 2001 and for translation in 2009. He also received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, Sahitya Akademi Award, Oman Cultural Centre Award, Mahakavi P. Kunjiraman Nair Award, Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan Award and Mahakavi Kumaran Asan Award.
His important works include Ezhuthachan Ezhutumbol, Satchidanandante Kavithakal, Pala Lokam Pala Kaalam Gandhi, Kavitayum Janatayum, Marannu Vecha Vasthukkal, Ivanekkoodi, Apoornam, Kavibuddhan, Venal Mazha, Padinjaran Kavithakal and Sambhashanathinu Oru Sramam among others.
