Dictionary.com crowns “67” as 2025’s Word of the Year — a Gen Alpha slang term that means everything and nothing at once.

If you’ve recently heard a kid mumble “six-seven” and felt like you missed a secret code, relax — you’re not alone. Dictionary.com has officially declared “67” (yes, literally the number) as its 2025 Word of the Year, sending the internet into a collective “wait, what?” moment.
The announcement dropped on October 29, and true to Gen Alpha form, the word’s meaning is as slippery as it is viral.
So, what does 67 even mean?
Apparently… no one really knows.
Dictionary.com defines it loosely as “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that,” but admits that the term’s power lies in its meaninglessness. “The most defining feature of 67 is that it’s impossible to define. It’s meaningless, ubiquitous, and nonsensical,” the site said, which, ironically, might make it the most perfect word of 2025.
The slang traces back to rapper Skrilla’s track “Doot Doot (6 7)”, which sparked a wave of TikTok edits, memes, and the rise of the now-infamous “67 Kid.” Within weeks, classrooms were echoing with “six-seven,” and teachers across the U.S. were swapping tips online on how to get students to stop saying it. (Spoiler: they couldn’t.)
“67” isn’t just a word — it’s a vibe, an in-joke, a digital shrug that captures the Gen Alpha mood: ironic, detached, and hyper-online.
Dictionary.com says it reflects how “a new word can rocket around the world as a rising generation enters the global conversation.”
The shortlist for 2025’s Word of the Year was equally on-brand, featuring buzzy terms like Aura Farming, Broligarchy, Tradwife, Tariff, and Overtourism. One notable finalist? The “TNT” emoji, which blew up (pun intended) after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement made it shorthand for “explosive love.”
So whether “67” means “meh,” “maybe,” or nothing at all — it’s officially everything in 2025.
