Abu Dhabi: The UAE has announced that tourists and residents stranded in the country due to recent airspace closures will be exempt from overstay fines. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) confirmed the decision as regional flight suspensions continue to impact thousands of travelers.

Who is eligible for the fine waiver?

The exemption is designed to support those unable to leave the UAE because of "exceptional regional circumstances." The waiver covers all fines incurred from February 28, 2026, and specifically applies to:

Tourists: Visitors on tourist or visit visas.

Permit Holders: Individuals holding valid exit permits.

Outgoing Residents: Residents who had already cancelled their residency permits in preparation for departure.

Authorities emphasised that the goal is to ensure travellers do not face a financial burden for delays that are entirely beyond their control.

Flight status and "safe air corridors"

While regular commercial flights remain largely suspended, the UAE is working hard to restore air travel safely. Here is the latest update on flight operations:

Suspension Update: Most scheduled flights by UAE carriers are currently paused until at least Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Emergency Flights: Special repatriation flights, coordinated with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), are operating to help stranded passengers reach their destinations.

Air Corridors: The UAE has opened "safe air corridors" in coordination with GCC neighbors. These emergency routes currently handle up to 48 flights per hour, allowing for a gradual and controlled resumption of air traffic.

Support at airports

Specialised teams are stationed at airports and Customer Happiness Centres across the Emirates to assist with rescheduling and document processing.

Travellers are urged to monitor official channels and only head to the airport if they receive a direct notification or confirmation from their airline.
