If you're planning to start or operate a food business such as a restaurant, it's mandatory to obtain a license or registration under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS), launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), provides a streamlined online platform for applying, renewing, and managing your food business license or registration.

Documents required

  1. Photo
  2. Government-issued photo IDs such as AADHAAR, PAN, Voter ID, etc.
  3. Proof of Address of Business activity (if address is other than as mentioned in the Photo ID Card)

Steps to register

1. Go to the FoSCoS portal: https://foscos.fssai.gov.in

2. Click on "License/Registration" and then select "Apply for License/Registration" from the yellow menu box.

3. Choose your State from the dropdown and carefully read the instructions provided before proceeding.

4. Under Kind of Business, refer to the Business Group Heads. From the Food Services group, select "Restaurant".

5. Choose the appropriate radio button based on your business's annual turnover.

6. Start filling Form "B" – Application for License/Renewal under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Make sure to fill in all mandatory fields, including:

  • Name of Business: XYZ Restaurant
  • Premises Address: 123 Baker Street, Bardez, North Goa, Goa – 122016
  • License Category: State License
  • Kind of Business: Restaurant

7. Choose the applicable food product categories:

  • 01 – Dairy products and analogues
  • 08 – Meat and meat products, including poultry and game
  • 99 – Substances added to food
  • 07 – Bakery products
  • 05 – Confectionery

8. Use "Save & Add" to add products. Once done, click "Save & Next".

9. Enter accurate communication details (mobile number, email ID), as all future correspondence will be made through these channels.

10. Upload the required documents as specified on the portal.

11. Make the payment through the available payment methods.

After successful payment, a receipt will be generated along with a 17-digit reference number. Keep this number safe for tracking your application.
