
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector is a key contributor to India’s economy. It plays a key role in generating huge employment opportunities with lower capital investment compared to large industries. Additionally, MSMEs contribute to the industrial growth of rural and underdeveloped regions, helping to bridge regional disparities and promote a fairer distribution of national income and wealth. If you are looking to register as an MSME lead, understanding the registration process is the first step.
Eligibility
A micro enterprise where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed one crore rupees and annual turnover does not exceed five crore rupees.
A small enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and annual turnover does not exceed fifty crore rupees.
A medium enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed fifty crore rupees and annual turnover does not exceed two hundred and fifty crore rupees.

- Individuals, startups, entrepreneurs, Sole proprietorship
- Partnership firm
- Trusts
- Self Help Groups (SHGs)
- Private and public limited companies
- Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)
- Co-operative societies

- Aadhaar card
- PAN card
- Business address proof
- Bank account details
- GSTIN: If applicable (for taxable entities)
- Investment details
- Turnover details
- Partnership deed
- Sales and purchase bill copies
- Licences and bills copy of purchased machinery
The MSME registration process is entirely online. MSME online registration is to be done on the government portal of udyamregistration.gov.in. There is no fee required for MSME registration. The registration online can be done under the following two categories in the portal:
'For New Entrepreneurs who are not registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II'
'For those already having registration as UAM' or 'For those already having registration as UAM through Assisted filing'
Steps to apply
New enterprises that are not registered yet as MSMEs
Go to the website: https://udyamregistration.gov.in
Tap on ’ For New Enterprise who are not Registered yet as MSME’
Enter the Aadhaar number of the applicant
The applicant should fill his/her name as per the Aadhar card.
If the name does not match with the Aadhar number, the applicant will not be able to fill out the form further.
The applicant must click on the’ Validate Aadhaar’ button for verification of Aadhaar.
An OTP will be sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
On successful entry of OTP, Aadhaar verification is completed.
PAN Verification: The applicant must select the type of organisation from the provided list that best matches their enterprise and enter their PAN (Permanent Account Number). The system will automatically verify the PAN. If the PAN is already registered in Udyam, a message will appear stating, "Udyam Registration has already been completed with this PAN."
Enter the details for registration, such as:
The applicant should provide their contact details, such as mobile number and email ID.
Social categorisation: SC/ST/OBC/General
Gender
Specially abled: Yes/No
Name of enterprise
Location of plant/unit
Official address of the enterprise
Previous registration number (UAM / EM II)
Status of enterprise : Date of incorporation, commencement
Bank details
Major activity: "Manufacturing" or "service."
National Industry Classification Code (NIC Code): The applicant may choose multiple National Industrial Classification (NIC) codes to include all their activities.

Turnover
DIC: The applicant must provide the location of the District Industries Centre (DIC) based on the enterprise's location. This field will become active and display options only if there is more than one DIC in the district. If there is only one DIC in the district, the system will automatically register the applicant with that DIC.
Submit and receive final OTP
Following the successful registration, a ‘Thank You’ message and a reference number will be displayed. This reference number will be active for print after an update of income tax data and export data from GSTN (if exporter).
Enterprises that have already registered in Udyam
Visit the website: https://udyamregistration.gov.in
Enter Udyog Aadhaar Number
Select OTP Options: OTP on Mobile as filled in UAM or OTP on Email as filled in UAM
Validate and generate OTP
For printing the udyam certificate
Visit https://udyamregistration.gov.in
Choose print Udyam certificate from the print/verification tab
Enter your 19-digit Udyam registration number
Enter the mobile number as filled in the Udyam application.
Choose any one option for OTP (One Time Password).
After clicking on the 'Validate & Generate OTP' button, you will receive OTP on the selected option.
Enter OTP and click on the 'Validate OTP & Print' button. When you enter the match OTP successfully, you will be redirected to print certificate.
