Kozhikode: It was a meeting of two Malayali stars in Birmingham, UK — Indian cricketer Sanju Samson and celebrated Malabar chef Abida Rasheed. The occasion turned into a celebration of Kerala's rich culinary heritage as Sanju was treated to an authentic Malabar feast prepared by Abida.

Abida, who arrived in the UK last week as part of her tour to introduce the authentic flavours and spice blends of Malabar cuisine to an international audience, has been conducting culinary sessions at Inji Restaurant, a Malayali-owned restaurant in Birmingham.

On Sunday, Sanju visited the restaurant for dinner along with fellow Kerala cricketer Basil Thampi. Subhash, owner of Kochi Blue Tigers, was also present.

Sanju is currently in the UK for India's T20 series against England. During the dinner, Abida and her team served a spread of Malabar specialities, including Kozhi Ada, Irachipathiri, Prawn Fry and Mutton Biryani.

According to Abida, Sanju was particularly impressed by the Irachipathiri and even asked for another serving. She later shared that she regretted not having prepared more of the dish.

Abida promised the cricketer that she would prepare an even wider variety of Malabar delicacies for him the next time he visits Kerala.

A native of Kozhikode, Abida recently began her international culinary tour after participating in the food festival organised by Mathrubhumi. She is known for her unique 'Experiential Food' concept, hosted at her home in Malikkadavu, which has attracted food lovers from across the country.
