
'Lakkott' is a Malayalam term that means envelope and Lakkottappam is a Malabar special spicy ‘envelope-shaped cake’. This mouth-watering simple dish is a common item on the iftar table.

Ingredients
- Chicken (cooked adding turmeric powder, salt and chilly powder and chopped) - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour (Maida)- ½ cup
- Tomato- 3
- Egg- 2
- Garlic (chopped)- 3
- Water- ⅓ cup
- Coconut oil- to fry
- Chilly powder- 1 ½ tbsp
- Garam masala- ½ tbsp
- Curry leaves (chopped)- 2 tbsp
- Salt
Procedure
Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped curry leaves, garlic and stir well. Add chilli powder, garam masala, a pinch of salt and saute well. Now add tomato into it and stir until the tomato is cooked and the masala is mixed with it. Now add the chicken cooked and chopped into small pieces into the masala. The filling is ready.
Now, make the batter for the ‘Lakkott’. Take a mixer jar. Add maida, salt, half an egg and water. Grind it well. Now take a non-stick pan and place it on a stove. Make an oval-shaped dosa with it. Make several dosas until the batter is over. Now, place 2 tbsp fillings into the dosa and fold it as an envelope. Dip the envelope (Lakkott) into the egg-yolk mixture. Add ghee and coconut oil into the pan and fry the ‘Lakkott’. Serve hot.
