A social media post by former YouTuber Nalini Unagar has triggered debate over pricing transparency on food delivery platforms after she claimed she was charged significantly more than the actual cost of her food order on Zomato.
Unagar said she ordered Veg Manchurian Dry and Chinese Bhel, which she claimed should have cost Rs 320. However, the bill generated on Zomato showed a total of Rs 655. Even after applying discounts, she said she was required to pay Rs 550, calling the charge “absolutely insane.”

In her post, Unagar accused the platform of overcharging customers and urged Zomato to explain the pricing discrepancy, alleging that users are being “blatantly overcharged.”
Responding to the claim, Zomato stated that prices listed on its app are “solely determined by restaurant partners.” The company added that it functions only as an intermediary between customers and restaurants and said it would share the feedback with the concerned outlet.

The response, however, prompted further discussion online. A user replying to Zomato’s comment questioned the platform’s role in price setting and demanded greater transparency. The post has since reignited conversations around transparency, commissions and consumer trust in online food delivery services.
