When it comes to showcasing India's rich textile traditions on the global stage, Nita Ambani continues to make a strong statement. For receiving the AAPI Humanitarian Award in Florida, USA, she chose a handcrafted Kanchipuram silk sari from Swadesh India, the craft initiative she launched in 2023 to preserve and promote India's traditional artisanal heritage.

The royal purple Kanchipuram silk sari was handcrafted by National Award-winning master weaver B. Krishnamurthy from Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Woven using the traditional Korvai technique, the sari seamlessly joins the body with its vibrant pink and green contrast border through an intricate interlocking weaving process.

Inspired by the frescoes and murals of Thanjavur temples, the sari featured mayil (peacock) and chakram (wheel) motifs woven in pure gold zari across the body. The border was further elevated with hand-painted double-headed parrot motifs.

Designer Manish Malhotra completed the ensemble with a matching blouse featuring a wide boat neckline and trompe-l'œil Tanjore-inspired motifs along the hem.

Keeping the focus on the craftsmanship, Ambani accessorised the look with diamond stud earrings, a statement necklace adorned with vivid green gemstones, a diamond bangle and a statement ring. Her beauty look remained elegant with kohl-lined eyes, defined lashes, soft pink lips, loose side-parted curls and a classic red bindi.

Known for championing India's handloom traditions, Nita Ambani has consistently worn region-specific weaves from Banarasi brocades and Patola silks to Jamdani and Kanchipuram saris at major international and cultural events. This latest Swadesh creation once again highlighted the artistry of Indian handloom, placing the spotlight on the skilled craftspeople who keep these centuries-old traditions alive.
