Nadukani Churam (Malappuram): In a bid to promote eco-friendliness, authorities have decided to clamp down on plastic usage by implementing fines on travellers at Nadukani Churam in Malappuram, Kerala. A new check post is to be set here in the first week of July to enforce these measures, following a decision made during a meeting under the direction of Assistant Director P B Shaju, on instructions from the District Collector.
Taking inspiration from Tamil Nadu's successful model, where fines collected at border check posts have made Nilgiri district plastic-free,actions will be enforced in Nadukani Churam as well. The initiative will involve collaboration from the Public Works Department, Motor Vehicle Department, Police and others with support from the Haritha Karma Sena stationed at the check post.
Tourists passing through will be encouraged to refrain from using plastic, with stringent actions planned against those found littering plastic waste. Surveillance cameras will be installed to monitor these efforts and ensure compliance, with funds allocated for aesthetic projects as well.
