Nothing has officially confirmed that its upcoming smartphone, the Nothing Phone (3), will be equipped with a 50MP periscope lens. Described by the company as its “first true flagship,” the device is scheduled for a global launch on July 1 along with Nothing Headphone 1. While the presence of the periscope lens has been confirmed, the extent of its zoom capabilities has not yet been revealed.

In a teaser shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Nothing described the Phone (3) as a device “built for creators,” showcasing its 50MP periscope camera.

A subsequent post included a series of sample photos, seemingly captured using the Phone (3), highlighting the camera's zooming and telemacro potential.

Akis Evangelidis, co-founder of Nothing, shared a tweet highlighting the engineering advancements in the Phone (3). He revealed that the new camera bump is 74% smaller compared to the Phone (3a) Pro, and the camera system supports 10cm macro photography. Akis also showcased macro images captured by the Nothing community, describing them as “real life Pokémons.”

Taking to X, Akis said, “A feat of elite engineering with a 74% smaller camera bump compared to Phone (3a) Pro, and support for 10cm macro photography. As promised here are some macro shots from our community, captured using Phone (3). Real life Pokémons”.

The previous generation, the Phone 2, lacked any telephoto lens, offering only wide and ultrawide options. This marks a noticeable upgrade and raises questions about the rest of the camera system. It remains to be seen whether the Phone (3) will offer a triple-lens setup or replace the ultrawide lens with the new telephoto module.

This is the third confirmed feature of the upcoming device. Nothing earlier announced that Phone (3) will debut a new glyph matrix system, replacing the earlier glyph light design. Promotional images indicate it will be positioned near the top of the phone, adjacent to the rear cameras, though its precise function remains unclear.

Another confirmed highlight is the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. The new chip follows the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and offers up to 49% better performance, especially in GPU tasks. Compared to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powering the Phone 2, the improvement is said to be as high as 88%, according to Evangelidis.
