IAS officer and author Dr Raju Narayana Swamy has released his 37th book, ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Musings of an Amateur Enthusiast’, offering insights into emerging issues such as patent misuse, artificial intelligence and blockchain in intellectual property law.

Senior IAS officer and acclaimed author Dr Raju Narayana Swamy has launched his 37th book, Intellectual Property Rights: Musings of an Amateur Enthusiast, at a ceremony held in Chicago. The book was formally released by Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh.

The latest publication explores several contemporary issues in the field of intellectual property rights (IPR), including patent misuse, the intersection of blockchain and artificial intelligence with intellectual property, performers' rights, utility models and patentability standards across different countries. It also examines important judicial rulings from multiple jurisdictions that have shaped the evolution of intellectual property law.

The release adds to Dr Swamy's extensive body of work spanning law, literature and public administration. He is also the author of the travelogue In the Valley Where the Peace Mantra Resonates, which received the Sahitya Akademi Award, and Neelakurinji: A Spring of a Dozen Years, which won the Kerala State Award for Children's Literature.

Apart from his literary achievements, Dr Swamy recently attracted attention after serving as a Central Observer for the Election Commission of India on 38 occasions, a notable milestone. He also served as an international election observer during Zimbabwe's 2018 general elections.

His contributions to intellectual property law earned him the 2021 Leonardo da Vinci Fellowship from George Mason University. He has also received the Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award from IIT Kanpur for his work against corruption.

Dr Swamy graduated in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Madras, earned a PhD in Law from Gujarat National Law University, completed a postgraduate diploma from the National Law School in Bengaluru and obtained an LLM with a gold medal from NLU Delhi. He secured the All India Rank 1 in the 1991 Indian Administrative Service examination.
