Royal biographer Tom Bower calls Meghan Markle a ‘source of evil’ and claims she ‘brainwashed’ Prince Harry.

Fresh criticism of Meghan Markle has resurfaced after royal biographer Tom Bower described the Duchess of Sussex as a "source of evil" and accused her of fundamentally changing Prince Harry's relationship with the Royal Family. The remarks come as Prince Harry and Meghan reunited with King Charles III and Queen Camilla during a private family gathering in the United Kingdom, marking a rare royal meeting after years of strained ties.
Bower, who has authored two books examining the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, renewed his long-standing criticism of the couple during a recent podcast interview. His comments have reignited debate over Harry and Meghan's departure from royal duties in 2020 and the continuing fallout from their decision to settle in California.
Tom Bower renews criticism of Meghan
Appearing on the Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered podcast, Bower was asked whether Meghan should be held responsible for Prince Harry's actions since the couple stepped down as senior working royals.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield asked, "Is Megan the cause for all of this as you watch Prince Harry blow up in front of the world? Is it Megan to blame? Is she the instigator? Is she the bad influence?"
Responding to the question, Bower said, "Oh, absolutely. I mean, Meghan is a source of evil. I've said it many years ago, and it didn't make me popular with some people, but she's bad because she only thinks of herself."
He went on to accuse the Duchess of prioritising her own interests above everything else.
"She is only focused on self-promotion, self-aggrandizement, profits for her, doesn't care who gets damaged along the way, and has behaved disgracefully and has never made amends," he said.
Claims of 'brainwashing' Prince Harry
Bower also repeated his long-held claim that Meghan influenced Harry's relationship with his family, alleging that she had distanced him from both the monarchy and his close friends.
"She has used Harry and abused the royal family and I think that that's really where in that whole phrase she's 'brainwashed Harry'" has come from, according to Bower.
The author has chronicled his views on the Sussexes in two books - ‘Revenge’, published in 2022, and his latest release, ‘Betrayal’, published in 2026.
In ‘Betrayal’, Bower claims Queen Camilla privately expressed concern about Harry following his marriage to Meghan.
According to the book, Camilla allegedly remarked to friends after the royal wedding, "Meghan’s brainwashed Harry."
The biographer also alleges that Harry underwent a significant personal transformation after beginning his relationship with Meghan.
"To please her, Harry was ignoring his old friends. He even changed his telephone number without telling his family. The jovial lad about town became possessed by seeking revenge. Increasingly, his character mirrored Meghan's. Emotionally, he veered towards extremes. Simple dislikes became passionate hatred," Bower wrote.
Sussexes reject the allegations
Bower's latest claims are among several criticisms he has levelled against the couple over the years. Following the publication of excerpts from ‘Betrayal’, Prince Harry and Meghan responded through a spokesperson, rejecting the author's portrayal of their lives.
The spokesperson said Bower's "commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation," while accusing him of promoting "deranged conspiracy and melodrama."
Neither Harry nor Meghan has initiated legal proceedings over the claims made in either Revenge or Betrayal.
Fallout from royal exit continues
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020 before relocating to California. Their departure was followed by a series of high-profile interviews and media projects, including Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 and Harry's memoir ‘Spare’, both of which detailed their grievances with the monarchy.
Those public disclosures further deepened tensions within the Royal Family, with Harry later expressing a desire to rebuild his relationship with his father.
Rare reunion with King Charles
Bower's comments surfaced shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan reunited with King Charles III and Queen Camilla during what Buckingham Palace described as a "private family occasion."
British media reported that Harry, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, travelled to Highgrove House, the King's private residence in Gloucestershire, for the gathering. The meeting marked the first time King Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet in person in more than four years and the Sussex family's first visit together to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022.
Harry had travelled to Britain earlier in the week for engagements linked to the Invictus Games. Initial reports suggested Meghan and the children would not make the trip because of ongoing concerns surrounding security arrangements after the couple lost automatic police protection following their departure from royal duties. However, the family ultimately attended the private reunion.
Despite the meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla, reports indicate there were no plans for Prince Harry to meet his brother, Prince William, during the visit.
