Kochi: Former education minister Prof C Raveendranath is writing a book on how the government schools, which were on the verge of closure, were brought back to mainstream during the previous term of the government.
Apart from this, Raveendranath is also writing another book on sustainable development. Both books are on the final stage, he told 'Mathrubhumi'.
Raveendranath had written four books on public education earlier. In the new book, he has included details of the activities in the last five years. The mission to revive public education sector started in 2016.
The status of government schools started declining since privatisation of education sector in 1991. The first challenge in reviving the public education sector was to change the people's attitude towards government schools.
As the first step, new buildings and infrastructure were built for government schools. Then the classes were made hitech. Also the teachers were given training for child-friendly education. All these efforts are mentioned in the upcoming book.
Prof C Raveendranath, who was education minister in the previous Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet, did not receive any amount from the government for medical expenses, according to to RTI documents. However, about Rs 75 lakh in total was received by other members of the cabinet.
When asked about this, Raveendranath said that he was of the opinion that no favour should be received other than the salary while holding the minister post. I did not think about the rights and wrongs in it, but I decided to do so, he said.
