
Kozhikode: The novel 'Vadakkan Kattu' penned by Chandrasekharan Thikkodi has been selected for this year's Poorna Uroob Award. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000, sculpture and felicitation letter.
A playwright, orator and cultural activist, Chandrasekharan hails from Thikkodi in Kozhikode. The novel 'Vadakkan Kattu' narrates the battles of the marginalised communities against the oppression of the elite class and the resistance of the common people against the British rule.
A jury panel including P Surendran, Dr V Rajakrishnan and Vaikom Murali selected the winner. 'Yanam Seethayanam' written by Sini Panicker and 'Avarnan' penned by Sajil Sreedhar won second and third prizes respectively.
