Seethathode: After a period of plummeting prices, rubber has hit this year’s high, giving relief to the farmers. It is learnt that these record high prices will continue for some time.

1kg RSS-4 rubber variety fetches around Rs 180. The prices were at a range of Rs 155 to Rs 159 and the present rise gives new hopes to the farmers.

According to traders, the price rise is on the back of stocking by big shots from main markets. Likewise, on the back of lesser rains in June, the cultivators this year got extended period of tapping.

If the prices continue to rise, the cultivators will find ways to produce more rubber including installation of rain covers.

Not just the rubber price, even latex is getting good price. The prices of 1kg latex is now at Rs 125 to Rs 130. Interestingly, the increase is from Rs 100 to Rs 105. The ripples of price rise are expected in all markets in Kerala.
