Palakkad: ‘Coffea arabica’, commonly known as Arabica coffee, is making a return to Attappadi thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Attappadi Co-operative Farming Society, supported by the Agricultural Department.
In the initial phase, cultivation will take place in regions such as Chindaki, Karuvara, and Puthuppadi. These areas are known for their favourable climatic conditions for Arabica coffee, complemented by the availability of water.
The estimated initial cost for the project is around Rs 76.04 lakhs. Agricultural Department officials have indicated that this amount will be sourced from funds allocated to increase agricultural income for scheduled groups.
Currently, Arabica coffee is cultivated in regions such as Coorg, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan in Karnataka, as well as in Yercaud and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu. It is also grown in parts of Wayanad.
