Thiruvananthapuram: The 2023 Global Education Monitoring Report published by UNESCO has three mentions about the use of technology in the education sector of Kerala.
The state received praise in the report for its free software policy, the SchoolWiki portal of KITE and internet connectivity in schools.
The report evaluates the changes brought in the education sector using innovative technologies.
According to UNESCO, developing content on more than 15,000 schools through SchoolWiki is a great achievement. SchoolWiki was launched in 2009 to foster a culture of collaborative learning among students. The website currently features details of over 15,000 schools in Kerala and gives a bird’s eye view of the schools’ elementary data, historical references, infrastructure, renowned Alumni, School websites, School maps, Blogs, Class Magazines, supporting images and videos.
The report praises Kerala's initiative to promote free software for digital education in schools, noting that 2 lakh computers are equipped with the most recent free software programs.
While the report raises worry about the gap in accessibility to the Internet between rural and urban India, it applauds Kerala for its efforts to bring connectivity to every nook and corner of the state.
