Thiruvananthapuram: The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University syndicate meeting has decided to appoint an ombudsman for addressing student grievances. This move, aligned with AICTE and UGC regulations, marks the first time in Kerala that a university has taken the step to appoint an ombudsman.

During the syndicate meeting, it was also decided that supplementary examinations for all odd and even semesters would be conducted alongside regular semester exams. Previously, the university conducted supplementary exams for the respective semesters during the regular exams. This system led to students with supplementary exams waiting for a year before the next opportunity. The new examination structure, set to be implemented from January, will allow students to take their supplementary exams within six months.

Additional Decisions:

  • A special syndicate meeting will be convened solely to discuss exam reform measures.
  • The syndicate has also endorsed the establishment of engineering schools under the university, with plans to initiate them in the upcoming academic year.
