Chennai: The Class 10 public examinations for students studying under the State syllabus in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will begin on Wednesday and continue until April 6, marking a key academic milestone for lakhs of school students across the two regions.

According to officials from the School Education Department, a total of 9,09,397 candidates will appear for the SSLC public examinations this year. This includes 8,82,806 students from 12,467 schools operating under the State syllabus in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In addition, 26,196 private candidates have registered to write the examinations. Authorities also confirmed that 395 prison inmates will appear for the Class 10 public exams this year.

Special arrangements for differently-abled students

Special facilities have been arranged to ensure that students with disabilities can write the examinations without difficulty.

A total of 12,292 differently-abled students will take the exam with the assistance of scribes or interpreters, appointed to support them during the examination process.

Strict monitoring at examination centres

To maintain transparency and prevent malpractice during the Tamil Nadu SSLC exams, authorities have implemented strict examination procedures across all centres.

After question papers are distributed, any unused copies remaining in the hall will be sealed in envelopes by invigilators in the presence of students.

For the smooth conduct of the Class 10 board examinations, the department has deployed 49,542 invigilators across the State. On each examination day, more than 45,000 teachers will be involved in supervision and other administrative duties.

To curb irregularities, around 4,800 flying squads have been formed to carry out surprise inspections at examination centres across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Authorities have also reiterated that mobile phones are strictly prohibited inside exam halls, including for teachers and staff associated with the examination process.

Health support and public helpline

The School Education Department has also put in place health and emergency arrangements for students appearing for the exams. If any candidate faces medical issues during the examination, they will be immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, the department has launched a dedicated helpline for complaints and grievances related to the conduct of the examinations. Members of the public can contact 9498383075 and 9498383076 between 8 am and 8 pm to report any issues regarding the Class 10 public examinations.
