New Delhi: The Supreme court has sent a warning to the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi university (MGU) stating that if the order is not implemented, an arrest order may be issued. The warning is related to the case of dismissal of employees of CPAS (Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies), a government-run society formed for the management of self-financing institutions.

The apex court has ordered that MGU Vice Chancellor Sabu Thomas, Registrar B. Prakash Kumar, Pro-Vice chancellor C.T Aravind Kumar, CPAS Director P Harikrishnan, Executive committee member Reji Scaria to appear in person on July 30.

The supreme court had earlier ordered that the dismissed employees should be paid their salary and benefits within four weeks which was not followed by the university. A bench comprising Justices P.S Narasimha and Aravind Kumar observed that it was prima facie clear that the university and its employees including the Vice Chancellor have committed contempt of court.

The self-financing institutions under the university were brought under a government-controlled society called CPAS. The university then dismissed the employees including those in permanent cadre of CPAS. The high court and then the supreme court quashed the dismissal and ordered the employees to be reinstated to their old posts.
