Thiruvananthapuram: To counteract interruptions in academic schedules caused by unforeseen circumstances such as heavy rain, colleges will now hold classes on Saturdays to compensate for any missed days. This measure aims to maintain the required number of academic days. A government order detailing this new policy will be issued soon.
While official holidays are scheduled throughout the year, local closures due to events like severe weather often lead to missed class days with no alternate sessions. The governing body for four-year degrees has decided to address this issue.
A committee led by Kerala University Registrar Dr. K.S. Anil Kumar has recommended that any unexpected holiday during the week should result in the following Saturday being designated as a working day. This adjustment is part of a broader effort to implement a consistent academic calendar across all universities, ensuring a minimum of 90 academic days per semester.
