Students and parents in Telangana expecting the usual second Saturday holiday on July 11 may want to think twice before making weekend plans. While second Saturdays are generally observed as holidays in schools, this time the schedule is different, and many students are required to attend classes as usual.

The Telangana School Education Department has declared Saturday, July 11, a regular working day for all government and private schools under its jurisdiction.

The move was announced earlier as part of the revised academic calendar for the 2026-27 session after the state postponed the reopening of schools by three days in June.

Originally, schools across Telangana were scheduled to reopen after the summer vacation on June 12.

However, following representations from various stakeholders, the School Education Department decided to extend the vacation and reopen schools on June 15 instead.

The revised reopening date also coincided with June 13 being the second Saturday and June 14 falling on a Sunday.

To make up for the instructional days lost due to the extension of the summer break, the department revised the academic calendar and designated July 11, which is the second Saturday of the month, as a working day.

Officials said the decision was taken to ensure schools complete the prescribed number of instructional days for the academic year and remain on schedule.

As a result, students who are accustomed to enjoying a holiday on the second Saturday will now be expected to attend classes.

Parents are also being advised to avoid assuming that schools will remain closed simply because it is the second Saturday.

However, students should still check with their respective schools before leaving for class.

While the School Education Department's order applies across government and private schools, individual institutions may issue separate advisories depending on local circumstances or unforeseen developments.

In addition, some private schools in Telangana suspended classes on Friday due to a statewide bandh, though no official statewide holiday was declared by the School Education Department.
