Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s 2025 Higher Secondary Plus-I examination results indicate a notable decline in student performance across multiple streams. The overall pass rate fell to 62.28%, down from 67.30% in 2024—a drop of 5.02 percentage points.

Among the 3.79 lakh regular school candidates whose results were announced, 2.36 lakh successfully cleared the exam. This decline follows a similar pattern observed in the recent Plus-II exam results, which had shown a smaller drop of 0.88%.

In terms of stream-wise performance, Science continued to lead with the highest pass rate at 68.69%. However, this too was lower than last year's 69.98%, indicating a 1.29% drop. The Commerce stream registered the most severe decline, with the pass rate falling by 9.56% to 59.64%. Humanities also saw a significant fall, down 7.15% from the previous year, ending at 50.57%.

The Open School segment posted an overall success rate of 40.53%, a marginal drop of 0.2% from last year. Within this group, the Science stream led with a 70.36% pass rate, while Humanities and Commerce trailed at 37.30% and 35.31%, respectively.

In the Technical stream, the pass rate was recorded at 44.37%, with 693 out of 1,562 students meeting the minimum requirement of 30%.

Education authorities are expected to review the underlying causes for the sharp declines in performance, particularly in Commerce and Humanities, ahead of the next academic cycle.
